DESCRIPTION:In the grey depths of January\, Dutch tulip growers build a pop-up garden of around 200\,000 tulips on Museumplein and invite everyone to pick their own bouquet for free. National Tulip Day (Nationale Tulpendag) marks the start of the cut tulip season\, and it is a cheerful splash of colour right when you need it most. \nIt is short\, popular and very Dutch\, with a brass band playing while you queue and the Rijksmuseum as a backdrop. \n\nWhen: Saturday 16 January 2027\, 13:00 to 17:00\nWhere: Museumplein\, Amsterdam\nTickets: free; each person may pick up to 10 tulips\nGetting there: train to Amsterdam Centraal\, then tram 2 to the Rijksmuseum stop; or train to Amsterdam Zuid and a short tram ride.\n\nGood to know: the average wait is about an hour\, and in previous years the field was picked clean before closing time\, so arrive before 13:00. DESCRIPTION:IFFR is one of Europe’s big film festivals and\, unlike Cannes or Venice\, it is very much a festival for the public. Hundreds of films from all over the world screen across Rotterdam\, with a strong focus on independent\, arthouse and experimental cinema\, plus talks\, installations and the occasional red carpet. Most films are in English or have English subtitles. \nIt also lands in the bleakest stretch of winter\, which is the perfect time to spend a whole weekend in dark cinemas watching films you would never find on Netflix. SUMMARY:Drawing! at the Rijksmuseum
DESCRIPTION:Around 1600 something exciting happened to drawing in the northern Netherlands. Artists such as Hendrick Goltzius\, Jacques de Gheyn II and Abraham Bloemaert worked together and pushed the medium forward\, trying new materials\, techniques and subjects. \nDrawing! brings together more than 100 works from European and American collections to tell that story. Drawings are fragile and rarely shown\, so this is a chance to see pieces that normally stay in the print room. SUMMARY:Bloemencorso Bollenstreek 2027
DESCRIPTION:Once a year the Bollenstreek (bulb region) puts its flowers on wheels. The Bloemencorso is a parade of huge floats covered in hundreds of thousands of hyacinths\, tulips and daffodils\, accompanied by decorated cars and marching bands\, travelling all day from Noordwijk through Lisse and Hillegom to Haarlem. The scent alone is worth the trip. \nFor anyone living around Haarlem or Zandvoort this is the local spring event of the year\, and you can simply pick a spot along the route. \n\nWhen: Saturday 17 April 2027.
