The Amsterdam Coffee Festival calls itself the biggest coffee party on earth, and after a few free tasters you will be too wired to argue. Roasters, cafes and equipment makers fill a huge former shipyard hall at NDSM with tastings, live roasting, latte art demos, workshops by leading European baristas, and food and coffee cocktails to balance out the caffeine.
It is a great day out if you take your flat white seriously, or if you have just bought an espresso machine and have no idea what you are doing.

- Getting there: take the free GVB ferry to NDSM from behind Amsterdam Centraal, a pleasant crossing of the IJ.
Good to know: go easy on the samples early on, eat something, and bring a tote bag for the beans you will inevitably buy.
