TEFAF Maastricht is widely regarded as the most important art and antiques fair in the world. Around 260 dealers from some 20 countries bring everything from Egyptian antiquities and Old Master paintings to jewellery, design and contemporary art, and every object is checked by a team of around 200 experts before the doors open.
You do not need to be buying a Rembrandt to go. For the price of a ticket it is like visiting a world class museum where everything happens to have a price tag, and the people watching is excellent. Maastricht itself, with its Burgundian food culture, makes a lovely weekend trip.
