WinterWelVaart is one of the most charming winter events in the north: a fleet of historic ships moors up in Groningen’s A-kwartier, the old quarter around the A-kerk, and the quay turns into a Christmas market with lights, music and stories from Groningen’s maritime past.
2026 is the 19th edition, and smaller spin-off editions run in Slochteren and other towns in the province the following weekend.

- Getting there: Direct trains from Amsterdam Centraal take a little over two hours; the A-kwartier is about a 15-minute walk from Groningen station
