As a South African living in the Netherlands, I sometimes crave for some boerewors on the braai. Sometimes the braadworst you get at Albert Heijn just doesn’t do the trick. It doesn’t have any spices in it and it just doesn’t taste anything like the boerewors we get in South Africa. So I have decided to make a list of places where you can buy some of the best boerewors in the Netherlands.
Die Spens (Amersfoort)
Die Spens has a great and probably the biggest selection of fresh boerewors. They have kameelhout, chakalaka, sosatie, ossewa and cederberg boerewors. So as you can see it’s a big variety. And their prices are great too. Only €9 per 500g. They don’t deliver so you will have to go there by train or by car to pick it up, but it’s worth the trip because they have so much more. You can find all of your South Africa favorites there like Pro Nutro, braai pap, melktert and koeksisters.
Location: Amersfoort
Website: www.diespens.nl
Estimated Price: €9 per 500g.
Kuierkos (Bloemendaal)
Kuierkos is a well-known name among South Africans in the Netherlands. They offer authentic boerewors and other South African treats that we all like. Their boerewors is frozen when you buy it at their shop but it’s still that great South African boerie flavour. All you need are some rolls at Albert Heijn or the bakery and you’re good to go.
Location: Bloemendaal
Website: www.kuierkos.com
Estimated Price: €13.75 per 500g for original boerewors. And then they also have thin boerewors for €13.95 per 500g.
Boerewors.nl (Online)
Boerewors.nl only offers a delivery option. So no physical shop. How it works is you sign up to their mailing list, and then every 4 weeks they will send out an email with a link to an online order form. You can then place your order and they will schedule a delivery date and time.
Location: Online (delivery throughout the Netherlands)
Website: www.boerewors.nl
Estimated Price: €17.90 per kg.
Devi Meijer (Facebook)
Devi Meijer has built a reputation through her Facebook presence for providing quality boerewors among many other dishes. This often indicates a more personal, home-style approach.
Location: Her base of operations may vary, but she typically arranges pick-ups or local deliveries.
Contact: Search for “Devi Meijer” on Facebook to connect with her and inquire about her offerings and locations.
Estimated Price: The price is a bit on the expensive side at €36 per kg.
Die Plaaskombuis
Die Plaaskombuis is a physical shop called Die Padstal in Ter Aar, Netherlands. It’s a bit out of the way from the major cities but if you live between Utrecht and Amsterdam and you have a car, you can stop by them to get your boerewors. They also sell other South African products at their shop.
Location: Die Padstal Shop
Website: www.plaaskombuis.nl
Estimated Price: Pricing is generally in line with other providers, likely EUR 18-22 per kg.
Happy boerewors hunting, and may your braai be ever delicious!
