European Speed Skating Championships Heerenveen 2027

Europe's best speed skaters race for allround and sprint titles at Thialf, the most famous ice oval in the world.
Skaters racing on an ice track with spectators

The ISU European Allround and Sprint Championships come to Thialf in January 2027, which means Europe’s best skaters racing in front of the most knowledgeable crowd in the sport. Allround skaters tackle a mix of short and long distances, while the sprinters battle it out over 500 and 1000 metres.

Home crowds at Thialf are famous for lifting Dutch skaters, and a championship weekend has a proper sense of occasion. Go for one session or the whole weekend: there is always a race on and the orange army keeps the volume up.

  • When: Friday 8 to Sunday 10 January 2027
  • Where: Thialf, Pim Mulierlaan 1, Heerenveen
  • Tickets: via schaatsen.nl, check the official site for prices and session times
  • Getting there: train to Heerenveen station, then a local bus, taxi or a walk of roughly 2 km.

Good to know: dress warmly and consider a seat cushion, as sessions are long and the stands are chilly.
