Frans Hals and Rembrandt were the two great portrait painters of the Dutch Golden Age, yet this is the first exhibition devoted entirely to putting them side by side. Nineteen paintings, eleven by Hals and eight by Rembrandt, come together in Haarlem, including five loans from the Rijksmuseum.
Comparing their group portraits of syndics and regentesses is a treat: Hals with his quick, lively brushwork, Rembrandt with his drama and shadow. For anyone living near Haarlem, it is the exhibition of the winter on your doorstep.
- When: Friday 6 November 2026 to Sunday 28 February 2027, Tuesday to Sunday
