Zandvoort has kilometres of wide sandy beach and a whole row of beach clubs (strandpaviljoens) along it, from relaxed family spots and surf shacks to Ibiza-style lounges with private pools. Here’s a practical guide to the best beach clubs in Zandvoort: which ones are open all year, where to go with kids or dogs, where to watch the sunset and how to get there.

Short answer: most of Zandvoort’s beach clubs sit on the central beach along Boulevard Paulus Loot and Boulevard de Favauge, a few minutes’ walk from the station. For something open all year, try Tijn Akersloot, NIUS Beach House, De Haven van Zandvoort, Thalassa or Piatti Beach. For a quieter, more natural beach, head south to the Zuidstrand.

Beach clubs open all year

Many beach clubs in Zandvoort are seasonal and are taken down after summer, but these five stay open year-round. A winter walk on the beach followed by soup or a glühwein by the fire is one of the best things to do here in the cold months.

Beach clubKnown for
Tijn AkerslootA Zandvoort classic since 1965, with big windows, a fireplace and sea views
NIUS Beach HouseRelaxed beach cooking, its own wines and a cosy fireplace in winter
De Haven van ZandvoortCafé, restaurant and event venue right on the central promenade
ThalassaUpmarket pavilion specialising in fresh North Sea fish
Piatti BeachItalian food and stone-oven pizzas, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner

Beach clubs on the central beach

The busiest stretch of beach is right in front of the village, between the station and the Boulevard. This is where you’ll find most of the beach clubs, and it’s easy to walk from one to the next.

Kayuca

A trendy beach club on Boulevard Paulus Loot with a mix of Ibiza, Moroccan and Mexican influences, lounge areas and sunbeds. Very popular on sunny days, so booking ahead is a good idea.

Hippie Fish

A stylish, seasonal beach club with a white and rattan interior, lots of greenery and sunbeds for rent. A good spot for lunch and a drink with your feet in the sand.

Ubuntu Beach

A Bali and Ibiza-inspired beach club with casual seating and a nicely designed interior, known for its BBQ evenings with live music on Fridays in summer.

Ohana Beach

A relaxed, family-friendly pavilion with a modern wood and rattan look, close to the centre. A good choice if you’re at the beach with kids.

Tent 6

An intimate beach club with wood-burning stoves and vintage furniture, serving Mediterranean food made with local ingredients. There’s a play area for kids and live music on some Sundays.

Noosa

An Australian surf-style beach club near the station with shared dishes and its own surf school next door. The place to go if you want to try surfing on the North Sea.

Mango’s Beach Bar

Right on the beach at Strandafgang de Favauge, and home to one of the best burgers in town. See my best burger in Zandvoort ranking.

Beach Club Far Out and Beach Barn

Far Out is one of the bigger beach clubs on Boulevard Paulus Loot, open from breakfast until late, with wide views over the sea. Beach Barn, a little further south along the boulevard, is a smaller beach club a bit further from the station, so it tends to be less busy.

North and south: quieter beaches

Bernie’s Beach Club (north)

On Boulevard Barnaart, north of the centre, Bernie’s is Zandvoort’s most exclusive beach club, with private pools, luxury loungers and its own parking. Expect prices to match.

The Zuidstrand (south)

South of the village, the beach gets wilder and quieter, with dunes right behind it. Part of the southern beach is a naturist (nude) beach, with beach clubs like Paal69, Fosfor and Bodhi Beach, which you can only reach along the beach. It feels far away from the busy centre.

Getting to Zandvoort from Amsterdam

Zandvoort is the closest beach to Amsterdam, which is why half of Amsterdam seems to be here on a sunny Saturday. The train from Amsterdam Centraal takes about 30 minutes, usually with a change in Haarlem, and on busy summer days there are often extra trains. Zandvoort aan Zee station is a five minute walk from the central beach, so you do not need a car.

  • By train: about 30 minutes from Amsterdam Centraal, or about 10 minutes from Haarlem. Check the NS app, because the trains fill up fast on hot days.
  • By car: about 40 minutes without traffic, but on summer weekends the roads into Zandvoort get jammed and parking is expensive. The train is usually faster.
  • By bike: about 30 km from central Amsterdam, a lovely ride through Haarlem and the dunes if you have the legs for it.

Making a day of it? Stop in Haarlem on the way back. On Saturdays the Grote Markt has one of the best markets in the region, which made our list of the best markets in the Netherlands.

Practical tips: getting there, dogs and more

  • By train: Zandvoort aan Zee station is a few minutes’ walk from the beach. From Amsterdam it takes about 30 minutes, via Haarlem.
  • By car: on sunny summer weekends, the roads into Zandvoort and the parking garages fill up fast. The train is usually the smarter choice.
  • Dogs: from 1 October to 1 May, dogs are allowed on the whole beach all day. From 1 May to 30 September, dogs aren’t allowed on the beach between 9:00 and 19:00. Dogs on a lead are welcome at most open beach clubs all year.
  • Sunset: Zandvoort faces west, so on a clear summer evening you get the sun setting over the sea. Grab a table on a terrace about an hour before sunset.
  • Booking: on warm weekends, book a table or sunbeds in advance, especially at the popular clubs.
  • Race weekends and events: check the Events Calendar before you go, because big events at the circuit or on the beach make the village very busy.
