The Amstel Gold Race is the Netherlands’ only men’s WorldTour one-day classic, and it turns hilly South Limburg into one big roadside party. The pro men’s and women’s races start in Maastricht and twist over dozens of short, steep climbs before finishing in Valkenburg, and watching is free.
Fancy a go yourself? The day before the pros, thousands of amateurs ride the Toerversie, the sportive version, over many of the same climbs. Book a hotel early: Limburg fills up fast on race weekend.
- When: Saturday 17 April 2027 (Toerversie for amateurs) and Sunday 18 April 2027 (pro races)
- Where: start in Maastricht, finish in Valkenburg, South Limburg
- Tickets: free to watch along the route; the Toerversie requires registration via the official site
- Getting there: trains run to Maastricht and Valkenburg; from Haarlem or Amsterdam allow around three hours.
Good to know: the Cauberg climb in Valkenburg is the classic place to watch, but get there early for a good spot.
