Schaatsbaan Museumplein 2026/2027

Ice skating in front of the Rijksmuseum: Amsterdam's Museumplein rink is back from 24 October 2026.

Few places in the Netherlands are as photogenic for a wobbly first skate as Museumplein, with the Rijksmuseum lit up behind you. The ice rink returns for the 2026/2027 season with skating, food and drinks, and plenty of hot chocolate for the people watching from the side.

For anyone from a country where ice only appears in drinks, this is a gentle, very Dutch introduction to schaatsen.

  • When: Saturday 24 October 2026 to Saturday 16 January 2027. Rink hours: Monday to Thursday 12:00 to 21:00, Friday and Saturday 10:00 to 22:00, Sunday 10:00 to 21:00; daily from 10:00 in the Christmas holiday (19 December 2026 to 3 January 2027)
  • Where: Museumplein, Amsterdam
  • Tickets: Book online; check the official site for prices and skate hire
  • Getting there: Tram 2 or 12 from Amsterdam Centraal to the Rijksmuseum or Van Baerlestraat stops

Good to know: Book a time slot ahead for weekends and holidays, and wear gloves: falls happen to everyone.
